Ian Lopez

Ian Lopez is the Director of Security for Cherry Creek School District. He has spent more than 20 years in various police departments across the Denver metro area and made the move to CCSD in 2019. Under his leadership, CCSD has updated the district’s approach to both physical and psychological safety. In addition to updating CCSD’s safety protocol, Lopez and his team work closely with global security consultants to improve efficiency across the district.

Paula Hans

Paula Hans has 25+ years of combined experience in crisis and incident response, media relations, public relations, marketing, and broadcast television. She currently works for the Douglas County School District, Colorado’s third largest school district, with 63,000 students and 8,900 employees. Paula has served as the Public Information Officer (PIO) for some of the country’s largest tragedies, including the Aurora Movie Theater shooting and the STEM school shooting. Prior to joining the Douglas County School District, Paula managed media relations for Aurora Public Schools in Colorado. Her career began in television news as a reporter, anchor, and producer, working for stations in several states.

Heililt Biehl

Heilit Biehl

Heilit Biehl is the Director of Judicial Services for Jeffco Public Schools in Jefferson County Colorado. She is a member of the district's Department of School Safety Management Team. In this role, Heilit oversees a department of five who manage court monitoring of juvenile cases and oversee records, processes and training on school- and district-level threat assessment & safety plans. Heilit has worked in education over 15 years with 10 of those years at colleges and universities in Colorado, Florida, and Utah. While in Higher Ed worked in Residence Life, Crisis Response, Case Management, and led a Behavior Intervention/CARE team. Heilit trains school districts on the Adams County Threat Assessment Protocol (PreK-12) and is certified in SIVRA-35, VRAW, ERIS, and TRAP-18. She serves on the Board of Directors for the “I Love U Guys” Foundation as Vice-Chair, is on the President of the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP), and is a board delegate and Scholarship Chair for the Colorado Association of Latino/Latina Administrators & Superintendents (CO-ALAS). Heilit has volunteered with the Colorado School Safety Resource Center and Center for the Study of Prevention of Violence at CU Boulder in establishing a grant-funded research program reviewing Colorado practices in threat assessment. Heilit is also a mom to two school-aged children and has previously volunteered in her kid's district serving as the School Accountability Chair.
